A subfloor, often called flooring, is a layer of material placed on the ground in the building, designed to create a smooth, even and stable surface for the final floor, such as tiles, parquet floors or laminated floors. It also performs other functions, including acoustic insulation and thermal insulation. The choice of the appropriate type of subfloor depends on the conditions and requirements of the particular project. Exemplary types of subfloors are self-levelling concrete, anhydrite self-levelling base, cement, plasterboard base or so-called floating base.
