How can you lower the humidity in your home?
If you do not have
windows with integrated mechanical ventilation or a general VMC system in your home, you can only use the "traditional method", that is, open the windows. Changing the ambient air in a natural way, i.e., opening the windows, allows you to maintain a constant humidity (humidity arises naturally, even when breathing, cooking or showering). At the same time, it ensures that moisture does not increase, eliminating the cause that favors the formation of mold.
Why is it important to ventilate the rooms every day?
Breathing fresh, good quality air contributes to everyone's overall well-being. Breathing clean air facilitates concentration and increases the efficiency of our activities. It also helps to better regulate the rhythms of wakefulness and sleep. Airing the premises daily and several times a day is necessary to eliminate discomfort caused by excessive moisture, unpleasant odors and harmful particles.
How and when to ventilate the rooms in the house?
To "replace" the air in the house and refresh the rooms, we have two options:
1. ventilate one room at a time, leaving the
windows open for a long time;
2. ventilate the whole house by creating drafts that accelerate the natural air exchange.
Airing the house with complete opening takes about 3 or 4 minutes. This is enough time for natural air circulation to be created. It should also be emphasized that the total time needed to ventilate the rooms depends on the size of the room and, above all, on external conditions. In a trivial way, opening the windows on a windy day significantly speeds up the change.
It should be borne in mind that airing rooms in the house reduces the presence of substances polluting the atmosphere of the environment: harmful substances that are formed as a result of the breathing process, from the material from which the furniture is made and from paints. And when the concentration of these elements is too high, headaches and fatigue appear.
