Four key feature options when customising your new door
A new door is much more than simply its core material. Thoughtful choices in colour, hardware, glazing and security configuration create character, resulting in a door that feels individually designed rather than selected from a catalogue. Our feature range covers four main customisation areas, each with extensive options across the composite, uPVC, hybrid and wooden ranges.
We supply and fit doors with full customisation within an 80 km radius of Rushden, and supply-only UK-wide. Every feature option is available across the relevant door ranges, with samples viewable at our Rushden showroom before you commit to a final spec.
Colour is often the first consideration for homeowners when buying a door, and for good reason. The right front door colour lifts the kerb appeal of the whole property, while the wrong colour can make a great door look out of place. Our colour range covers the full RAL palette across composite, uPVC and hybrid doors, plus natural stains and oils on wooden doors. Dual-colour finishes give you different shades inside and out, useful where the exterior needs to match brick or render while the interior coordinates with hallway décor.
Door furniture covers everything that isn’t encompasses all components apart from the door slab itself: handles, knockers, letterplates, spy holes, number plates and decorative trim. Hardware finishes include chrome, satin steel, black, antique brass, satin gold and bright gold, with matching sets available across all the standard pieces. Front door handles in particular come in a wider range than back door hardware, reflecting the higher visibility of the front entrance. Smart lock options are available where you want keypad, fingerprint or app-controlled entry as part of the spec.

Much of a door’s security lies within its internal construction rather than its external appearance, but it’s what makes the difference between a door that works as a deterrent and one that’s a liability. PAS 24 certification, Secured by Design status, multi-point hook locking, anti-bump and anti-snap cylinders, and 3-Star Ultion options across the ranges give you certified front door security at the level your property and insurance policy require.
Glass options cover both the door panel glazing and any associated sidelights, fanlights or top lights. We supply clear, frosted, leaded, decorative bevels and stained glass effects across the ranges, with double or triple glazing on external glazed configurations and acoustic-laminated glass available for noise reduction. The glass spec is independent of the door spec, so you can pair high-security door construction with decorative glazing if that’s the look you want.

Choosing features for a new door usually happens in a particular order follows a logical decision-making process. We guide you through every decision during the survey but understanding the process in advance can make it smoother.
Colour comes first because it sets the visual tone and influences which hardware finishes will alongside suit the overall character of your door. Hardware is the second consideration, matching the finish to the colour choice (black handles on anthracite grey doors, brushed gold on cream doors, chrome on classic white). Glazing decisions follow, including whether you want prefer decorative or functional glass and the amount of natural light you desire in your home. Finally, the security specification is confirmed, matched to the property and insurance requirements.
Most homeowners only a have a general idea of their door feature preferences until they see the available options in person. The showroom visit is where the design choices naturally come together because seeing the colours, hardware finishes and glass options in person makes it far easier to make confident design decisions than relying on a brochure alone.
Within reason, yes. The four ranges each have their own construction methods, but feature choices, including colour, hardware, glazing and security, are mostly independent of the core construction. We'll advise during the survey if a specific combination isn't possible.
It depends on which features. Premium RAL colours add around 5 to 10% to the base door price. Premium hardware finishes add 10 to 20% depending on the spec. Decorative glazing adds 15 to 30% over standard double glazing. Security upgrades like 3-Star Ultion cylinders add £100 to £200 to the door cost. We provide itemised quotes after the survey so you can see exactly what each feature costs.
Yes. Our Rushden showroom has full sample displays for all four feature categories. We can also bring colour, hardware and glass samples to the home survey if you can't get to the showroom.
The full RAL palette is available across the ranges, so if your windows are in a specific RAL colour we can match it exactly. For older windows that may not be in a standard colour, we can match to a sample or to a known similar colour using paint codes.
For some homeowners, yes. Smart locks add keypad, fingerprint or app-controlled entry, which is useful for properties with rental tenants, families with multiple key-holders, or homeowners who want to grant temporary access remotely. The base security spec is just as strong with a standard cylinder lock, so the choice is really about convenience rather than fundamental safety.
Some features can be changed later. Hardware can be swapped relatively easily. Cylinder upgrades to higher security ratings are straightforward. Colour and glazing can't be changed after manufacture without replacing the door, so it's worth getting these decisions right at the order stage.
No, though they're related. PAS 24 is a publicly available specification that tests the door's resistance to forced entry. Secured by Design is an additional police-backed certification that requires PAS 24 plus other security criteria. Most insurance companies recognise both. We supply doors to either or both standards depending on spec.

Most features are available across all our external door ranges, though some specifics vary by material.
The full RAL colour palette is available on composite, uPVC and hybrid doors. Wooden doors take the full RAL palette plus natural stains and oils that don’t apply to other materials. Hardware finishes are universal across the ranges, though some heavy-traffic configurations like apartment entrances or commercial-use doors may need specific spec.
Security upgrades like PAS 24 and 3-Star cylinders are available across composite, uPVC, hybrid, French and patio doors. Wooden doors can be specified to similar standards with appropriate locking hardware. Glazing options vary slightly by range. Composite doors take clear and decorative glazing well. uPVC works with the full range. Hybrid doors offer triple or quadruple glazing as standard configurations. Wooden doors take leaded, stained glass and decorative bevels particularly well for traditional installations.

The showroom has colour swatches, hardware samples and glass options laid out so you can compare combinations directly. The difference between a brochure photo and a real sample is significant, particularly on hardware finishes where the actual metal tone matters more than the photograph, colour samples where the texture (matt vs gloss vs woodgrain) changes the appearance, and glass options where the diffusion and clarity can’t be captured in a photo.
A 30-minute showroom visit usually answers more feature questions than hours of catalogue browsing. Visits are flexible and by appointment.
