Front doors that work as hard as they look
The visible side of a front door is the colour, hardware and panel detail. The invisible side is the locking mechanism, cylinder, frame reinforcement and certified construction that keeps the house secure. Most homeowners think about the visible side first, but insurance companies are more concerned about what lies beneath the surface as this is what actually determines whether the door fulfils its primary function – controlling who enters your property.
We supply and fit doors built around three certified security standards: PAS 24 for the full door set, TS 007 3-Star for the cylinder, and Secured by Design for police-recognised compliance. The whole range can be specified to these standards within an 80 km radius of our Rushden showroom.
PAS 24
PAS 24 (Publicly Available Specification 24) tests the complete door set against forced entry. The testing covers the door slab, frame, hinges and locking mechanism against real-world attack methods including levering, kicking and impact damage. A door achieving PAS 24 has been independently tested and verified.
TS 007 3-Star
TS 007 3-Star is the British Standards cylinder rating. The cylinder is the most-attacked component in residential burglary, and standard cylinders can be snapped in seconds with the right tools. A 3-Star cylinder resists drilling, picking and snapping at the highest tested level.
Secured by Design
Secured by Design (SBD) is the UK Police initiative recognising products meeting their security criteria. SBD-certified doors carry weight with insurance companies and can attract premium discounts depending on the insurer.
Every external door we install includes:
PAS 24 with Winkhaus or Yale multi-point hook locking and Ultion 3-Star cylinders. The GRP outer skin, steel-reinforced frame and certified locking give composite doors the security profile most homeowners want from a front door.
PAS 24 with hook-bolt multi-point locking and 3-Star cylinder upgrades. Internal steel reinforcement handles protects against structural attack while the locking spec entry attempts at resists forced entry attempts on the lock case.
The strongest base security in the range. The steel core provides structural resistance before the locking spec comes into play, with ROTO 10-point locking and Wilka RC2 or RC3 cylinders providing further protection for properties needing the highest residential security level.
PAS 24 with appropriate locking and reinforced frames. Solid oak handles impact attack well, and modern multi-point locking retrofits to traditional timber designs without compromising the appearance.
If your existing door is sound but the security spec is older, several upgrades improve performance without replacing the full door.
The cylinder swap is the most impactful single upgrade because cylinder snapping accounts for a significant proportion of UK residential break-ins.
The difference between standard and high-security door spec is hard to appreciate from a brochure. Our Rushden showroom has secure doors set up with full hardware fitted, including demonstration cylinders and lock cases you can operate yourself. Feel free to bring questions about insurance requirements or specific security concerns and we’ll through help you understand which spec best suits your property.

Front door security comes from the combination of construction, frame, hinges, glazing and locking. A reinforced or steel-cored slab resists forced entry. A properly fitted frame with reinforced hinges resists levering. A multi-point locking system distributes the holding force. A TS 007 3-Star cylinder resists snapping. Laminated security glass replaces standard glazing in glazed panels. The combination matters more than any single element.
PAS 24 is the UK standard for testing how well a door set resists forced entry. The testing covers the complete door against simulated real-world attack methods. Look for PAS 24 on the product specification rather than vague "high security" claims.
Cylinder snapping is one of the most common methods used in UK residential break-ins. Standard cylinders can be broken in seconds with the right tools. A TS 007 3-Star cylinder resists snapping, drilling and picking at the highest tested level, removing this as a viable attack route.
Yes, in many cases. The most impactful upgrade is replacing the cylinder with a TS 007 3-Star version, which takes 30 minutes. Multi-point locking upgrades, reinforced hinge bolts and strike plate replacements can also be retrofitted to existing doors.
No. Laminated security glass looks identical to standard double or triple glazing. The security comes from the interlayer film bonded between the glass panes, which holds the glass together if broken. Decorative patterns including leaded, bevelled and stained glass all work with laminated construction.
Sometimes. Many UK home insurance policies offer discounts or reduced premiums for properties with PAS 24 and Secured by Design certified doors. The discount varies by insurer and policy, so it's worth asking your insurer specifically. The certification paperwork comes with the installation.
Yes. UK-wide delivery covers the full range of secure door specifications. The spec, certification documentation and hardware options are identical between supply-only and fitted orders.
