The most popular front door choice in the UK
Composite doors are the most popular front door choice in the UK and have been for over a decade. The combination of strength, security, low maintenance, thermal performance and design flexibility make them a practical alternative to timber and uPVC for many family homes.
We supply and fit composite front doors within an 80 km radius of our Rushden showroom, with the full range of colours, glazing options and Ultion 3-Star security locking included as standard.
Composite doors are built from multiple materials bonded together, hence the name. This type of door typically has a GRP (glass-reinforced polymer) outer skin, a foam-insulated core, a reinforced timber sub-frame and a multi-point locking system.
The GRP skin gives composite front doors their resistance to weather, fading and impact damage. The foam core delivers the thermal performance. The timber sub-frame gives the structural strength for the lock mechanisms and hinges.
Compared with uPVC doors, composite front doors are stronger and offer better thermal insulation. Compared with wooden doors, composite doors don’t warp, split or need re-oiling every two years. Compared with hybrid doors, composite is more affordable while still delivering comparable security and weather performance.
Every composite door we supply comes with Ultion 3-Star anti-snap cylinders as standard. The Ultion cylinder is the highest-rated residential cylinder available in the UK, with TS 007 3-Star certification and Sold Secure Diamond rating.
The full security spec on our composite doors includes Ultion 3-Star cylinders, Winkhaus or Yale multi-point hook locking, reinforced hinges, anti-bump pins, and PAS 24 doorset certification available as an upgrade.
Secured by Design (the UK Police-backed certification) is available across the composite range for properties where the highest residential security spec is the priority.
Our composite doors achieve U-values from 0.86 W/m²K, which is well below the 1.4 W/m²K minimum required for new front door installations under current UK Building Regulations.
The foam-insulated core does most of the thermal work. The GRP skin reduces air infiltration. The multi-point locking compresses the door against EPDM weather seals around the frame, eliminating draughts at the perimeter.
For exposed front elevations and older properties where heat loss is already higher, the thermal improvement from upgrading to a modern composite front door is usually noticeable in the first winter.
Our door range includes panel designs to suit every UK property type. Common style ranges include:
Each style is available in the full RAL colour palette, with dual-colour finishes giving you different shades inside and out.

The most-requested composite front door colours are anthracite grey, classic black, chartwell green, Oxford blue, traditional red and warm white. The full RAL palette is available, plus dual-colour interior and exterior finishes.
For the full colour palette and matching guidance, see our door colours page.
These doors work particularly well with decorative and privacy glass because the panel inserts are designed into the GRP construction.
The full Pilkington Texture range is available across composite doors, including Stippolyte, Contora and Cotswold patterns at privacy levels 1 to 5. Pilkington Oriel etched glass works for contemporary composite designs. Laminated security glass is available across all decorative patterns for properties where decorative glazing and security both matter.
For the full glass range, see our glass range page.
If you’re searching for composite doors in Northamptonshire or the surrounding counties, our Rushden showroom is the closest dedicated composite door showroom for most homeowners in the area. We supply and install composite front doors within an 80 km radius covering Northampton, Bedford, Milton Keynes, Kettering, Cambridge, Peterborough, Rugby and Hemel Hempstead.
Outside the 80 km installation area, we offer UK-wide supply-only delivery for trade installers and self-build projects. We regularly receive enquiries from Wellingborough, Corby, Higham Ferrers, Raunds, Towcester, St Neots and Daventry, all within our standard fitting area.
Most made-to-measure front doors take around 5 to 8 weeks for delivery and fitting, depending on colour and glazing spec. Standard colours and patterns deliver at the shorter end of the range. Custom RAL colours, decorative leaded glass and Secured by Design upgrades push lead times longer.
Installation is typically a one-day job. Our FENSA-registered installers handle the survey, removal of the old door, frame fitting, weather sealing and final commissioning of the new composite door. The FENSA certificate is issued at handover.
Composite doors come with a 10-year guarantee covering the door slab, frame, sealed glass units, hardware finish and our workmanship on site. Manufacturer warranties on key components like the Ultion 3-Star cylinder run for the lifetime of the product subject to the manufacturer’s terms.
Composite doors are external doors built from multiple materials bonded together for strength, thermal performance and security. A typical composite front door has a GRP outer skin, a foam-insulated core, a reinforced timber sub-frame and multi-point hook locking. This construction makes them a popular front door choice in the UK.
Composite front doors fitted typically cost £1,200 to £2,000 in the UK. Supply-only composite doors start from around £750. Premium specs with Ultion 3-Star cylinders, decorative glazing, dual-colour finishes and custom RAL colours push toward the £2,500 to £3,500 range. The final price depends on size, colour, glass and hardware spec.
Yes, composite doors are highly secure. Our doors come with Ultion 3-Star anti-snap cylinders, Winkhaus or Yale multi-point hook locking, reinforced hinges and anti-bump pins as standard. PAS 24 doorset certification and Secured by Design accreditation are available as upgrades for the highest residential security spec.
A well-maintained composite front door easily lasts 30 years or more. The GRP outer skin resists fading, warping and cracking. The foam-insulated core retains its thermal performance over decades. Regular maintenance is minimal, with a quarterly wash and twice-yearly hinge and lock lubrication being all that's needed.
Composite doors are stronger, more thermally efficient and more secure than uPVC doors, but they cost roughly 30 to 50% more. For front doors where security and thermal performance matter most, composite is usually the better long-term choice. For back doors or budget-focused projects, uPVC remains a strong option.
These doors come with the colour applied as part of the GRP manufacturing process, which gives the finish long-term fade resistance. The trade-off is that they cannot be repainted in the same way as wooden doors. To change the colour years later, the door usually needs replacing rather than refinishing.
For composite doors near me in Northamptonshire, our Rushden showroom serves Wellingborough, Northampton, Bedford, Kettering, Cambridge, Peterborough, Corby, Milton Keynes and Rugby with full survey, manufacture and FENSA-registered installation. Visit the showroom to see full-size composite doors in person before deciding on colour, glass and hardware.
Ultion 3-Star is the highest-rated residential cylinder available in the UK, with TS 007 3-Star certification and Sold Secure Diamond rating. The cylinder resists snapping, drilling, picking and bumping attacks. Every composite door we supply comes with Ultion 3-Star security as standard.
