Aerogel is an innovative porous and very light material obtained from a gel, the liquid component of which has been replaced by a gas. This material contains a lot of air bubbles, has a low density and low thermal conductivity, making it an excellent thermal insulator. Aerogel is a solid material that consists of 95-99% air. It is a three-dimensional structure containing a large amount of air bubbles. This structure most often consists of silica, but carbon or metal oxide aerogels are also found.
