Windows Features

Every detail that makes a great window

Choosing new windows means thinking beyond the basic frame and glazing. The hardware, glass type, colour finish, security spec and energy performance all combine to deliver the final window quality. Each feature affects how the window looks, how it performs and how long it lasts.

This page covers the main features available across the Homeefe windows range, with practical advice on which choices suit different priorities. Available across the 80 km installation radius covering Northamptonshire and surrounding counties.

Window features at a glance

The Homeefe windows range includes the following features as standard or as available upgrades:

  • Glass range covering double glazing, triple glazing, Low E glass, acoustic glass and decorative options
  • Window security with multi-point locking, internally-beaded glazing and PAS 24 certification
  • Grab lock systems for added child safety and intruder resistance
  • Window colours across the full RAL palette plus wood-grain foils on uPVC
  • Window furniture including handles, hinges and locking hardware
  • Noise reduction windows with acoustic-laminated glass for properties near busy roads
  • Energy efficient windows with U-values from 0.8 W/m²K on triple glazing

Glass range

The glass selection inside the sealed unit affects thermal performance, acoustic performance, security and appearance. Our glass range covers:

  • Double glazed sealed units as the standard UK spec for modern windows
  • Triple glazed sealed units for exposed elevations and maximum thermal performance
  • Low E glass with microscopic metallic coating reflecting heat back into the room
  • Laminated security glass for ground-floor windows and improved break-in resistance
  • Acoustic-laminated glass for properties near busy roads or flight paths
  • Pilkington Texture privacy glass in 21 designs across privacy levels 1 to 5
  • Stained glass windows for period properties and decorative applications
  • Toughened safety glass for areas requiring impact-resistant glazing

The glass choice affects the visible appearance of the window, the daylight quality coming through, and the privacy levels achieved.

Grab lock and child safety features

The grab lock system is a window-specific security feature engineered into the frame and sash. The mechanism:

  • Engages automatically when the window is closed for hands-free security
  • Prevents the sash being lifted or levered out of the frame
  • Resists tampering through concealed-hardware design
  • Works alongside the standard multi-point locking for layered security

Grab lock systems are particularly useful for ground-floor windows, properties in higher-risk areas, and any installation where the homeowner wants security beyond standard multi-point locking. Lockable handles and removable handle keys are available across the range for households with young children.

Window colours

The full RAL colour palette is available across uPVC, aluminium and timber windows. The most-requested UK window colours track modern preferences:

  • Anthracite grey as the leading modern colour choice across new builds and renovations
  • Classic white as the traditional safe choice that suits most property types
  • Matt black for properties wanting maximum contrast and contemporary edge
  • Chartwell green for period properties and Victorian or Edwardian elevations
  • Heritage cream for traditional cottages and rural properties
  • Oxford blue for traditional townhouses and Georgian properties
  • Custom RAL colours for projects wanting a specific shade match

Dual-colour finishes give you one colour outside and a different one inside. Wood-grain foils on uPVC windows give the timber appearance without the maintenance.

For the full breakdown of colour options, see our window colours page.

Window furniture

Window furniture covers the hardware that operates the window and the visible fittings on the frame:

  • Handles in matt black, polished chrome, satin steel, antique brass and satin gold finishes
  • Hinges in concealed and exposed configurations matching the window style
  • Friction stays that hold casement windows in a controlled open position
  • Crank handles for casement windows where a winding mechanism suits the application
  • Espagnolette handles for sash windows reproducing traditional period hardware
  • Restrictors that limit the maximum opening angle for child safety
  • Pull bars and finger grips for tilt and turn windows and modern operations

Marine-grade stainless steel, solid brass and PVD-coated hardware options resist UK weather for decades without visible corrosion.

For the full window furniture range, see our window furniture page.

Noise reduction windows

Soundproof windows with acoustic-laminated glass deliver significantly more noise reduction than standard double or triple glazing. The acoustic interlayer between glass panes absorbs sound energy that would otherwise transmit through the window.

Noise reduction performance by spec:

  • Standard double glazing cuts external noise by around 30 decibels
  • Triple glazing cuts external noise by up to 40 decibels
  • Acoustic-laminated double glazing cuts external noise by 35 to 40 decibels
  • Acoustic-laminated triple glazing cuts external noise by up to 45 decibels

Soundproof windows are best installed in bedrooms, living rooms and home offices where ambient noise affects comfort, sleep quality or productivity. Properties near main roads, flight paths, schools or commercial neighbours benefit most.

Window Features FAQs

What window features does Homeefe offer?

Homeefe offers a wide range of window features, including double glazing, triple glazing, Low-E glass, acoustic laminated glass, decorative glass, privacy glass, colour finishes, woodgrain effects, multi-point locking, lockable handles and security upgrades. These options are available across popular window styles such as casement windows, sash windows, bay windows, tilt and turn windows and flush casement windows.

What is the most important window feature for energy efficiency?

The most important window features for energy efficiency are the glazing specification, Low-E glass, the frame design and the quality of the weather seals. Double or triple glazed sealed units help reduce heat loss, while Low-E glass reflects heat back into the room. A well-made frame and tight seals also help reduce draughts and improve comfort.

Are grab locks worth the upgrade?

Grab locks can be a worthwhile upgrade for homeowners who want additional security and convenience. They are especially useful for ground-floor windows, accessible windows and homes where extra peace of mind is important. Depending on the system, grab locks can help hold the sash securely in place when the window is closed.

What colour options are available for windows?

Windows are available in a wide range of colour options, including classic white, anthracite grey, matt black, chartwell green, cream and other popular finishes. uPVC windows can also be finished with woodgrain-effect foils for a more traditional timber appearance, while dual-colour options may allow one colour outside and another colour inside.

How much can noise reduction windows reduce external noise?

Noise reduction windows can help reduce external noise when they are fitted with quality sealed glazing units, acoustic laminated glass and effective frame seals. The result depends on the glass specification, frame type, installation quality and the type of noise outside the property. Acoustic glass can be especially useful for homes near busy roads, rail lines, schools, commercial areas or flight paths.

What window security features should I look for?

Useful window security features include multi-point locking, strong hinges, lockable handles, internally beaded glazing, laminated security glass and reinforced frames. For ground-floor or easily accessible windows, enhanced locking and security glazing can provide extra protection and peace of mind.

Can I customise the features on my windows?

Yes. You can customise many window features, including the glazing specification, frame material, colour, finish, handle style, locking system, privacy glass, decorative glass and acoustic glass. During the survey and quotation stage, Homeefe can help you compare the available options and choose the right specification for your home.

Energy efficient windows

Energy efficient windows reduce heat loss through the glazing and the frame, which translates to lower heating bills and a more comfortable home. The BFRC labelling scheme rates window energy performance from A++ (best) to E (worst).

Energy performance by spec:

  • Single glazed windows typically have U-values of 4.8 W/m²K or higher
  • 1990s double glazing typically achieves U-values of 2.8 to 3.2 W/m²K
  • Modern double glazing with Low E achieves U-values from 1.2 W/m²K
  • Modern triple glazing with Low E achieves U-values from 0.8 W/m²K

A-rated and A+-rated double glazed windows typically cut window-related heat loss by 50 to 70% compared with single glazing or basic 1990s double glazing. The biggest savings come on older properties where the existing windows are already underperforming.

For more on energy efficient windows, see our energy efficient windows page.

Window security

Window security comes from certified standards rather than vague claims. Our windows include the following security features as standard or as available upgrades:

  • PAS 24:2022 doorset certification testing the complete window against forced entry methods
  • TS 007 3-Star cylinder hardware resisting snapping, drilling and picking attacks
  • Secured by Design accreditation with UK Police-backed certification and independent testing
  • Multi-point hook locking engaging at multiple positions around the frame perimeter
  • Internally-beaded glazing preventing the glass being removed from outside
  • Laminated security glass that holds together when broken
  • Lockable handles with removable keys for households with young children

A high-security cylinder paired with weak hinges doesn’t give you a secure window. Spec the whole set together.
